Vintage Tai Chi self defence training and applications

Cheng Tin Hung and his students were known for their combat effectiveness in the ring and on the streets.

As well as many street duels against other martial artists he and his students won many national and international full contact tournaments using the traditional Tai Chi training methods of the Wudang system.

Below we can see some of his students practicing a variety of drills and applications, noteworthy due to their practical simplicity and variety, including plenty of sweeps, throws and even a ground reversal technique.

The Wudang system of tai chi has always included a very complete syllabus of striking, grappling, throwing, locking and so on.

It is very similar to modern MMA in that regard, with the main difference being the continual search for subtlety and additional more lethal/dangerous techniques unsuited to the sporting arena.
