The Sword Form of Wudang Tai Chi

The Wudang Tai Chi sword form is an intricate, subtle and sophisticated movement practice, developing highly refined movement and coordination

In this video we can see one of Cheng Tin Hung’s students demonstrating the sword form of the Wudang style of Tai Chi. Traditionally associated with the mythical dragon, sword training using the form develops agility, balance and high levels of coordination.

Connecting body movements to the light and subtle expressions of force through the double edged blade requires plenty of training. Over time this develops very subtle sensitivity and awareness of our movements and the movements of the sword, traditionally considered the development of Qi or perception.

Sword form training in low stances will further develop aerobic conditioning as well as the ability to pivot in refined and subtle ways.
