Some teachers believed that the spear should be the first weapon to be trained to build physical power and whole body strength

A heavy spear is often used to practice the techniques, forms and spear sticking exercises in order to develop a very useful kind of physical strength.

Power and strength from heavy spear training focuses on shoulder developmental, core strength and control, back and also the grip.

When practiced continually and with expressions of power not only is refined and focussed power emission developed but anaerobic fitness is also built. This is particularly true if we do several rounds of spear form.
