The Sabre form in the Wudang style of tai chi is an intense and dynamic form, developing strength in the legs, core and back. It’s explosive nature also develops anaerobic fitness, particular when practiced repeatedly with short rests between. It serves as a kind of interval training methods, developing both useful martial movements and body coordination whilst conditioning the bodies’ endurance capacity.
Above you can see a student of Sifu Cheng Tin Hung demonstrating the sabre.
You will notice the extremely low stances, agile movements and full speed explosive use of the sabre.
As well as the physical conditioning benefit regular practice develops not only our coordination, footwork and core strength, but also the ability to express explosive force with precision focus in a wide variety of directions.
